HEALTHWISE BULLETIN

Be Informed. Stay Healthy

Issue No. 004/25-0315 Saturday, March 15 2025

Editorial

Welcome to the 13th Issue of the HealthWise Bulletin,

Hello, friends, acquaintances, and dedicated health seekers!

It’s a joy to welcome you to our thirteenth issue of the HealthWise Bulletin. Whether you’ve been part of this journey from the start or you’re just joining us, thank you for being here.

Your comments, questions, and encouraging notes continue to inspire us.

Each message I receive fuels my determination to walk with you on this path toward transformative health and holistic wellness.

Together, we’re making real progress—one step at a time.

Just last week, a member of my WhatsApp group sent me a heartfelt message. She shared how, although she had been quietly following our group discussions, she has seen a significant improvement in her cardiovascular health.

Now, she feels more empowered, hopeful, and in control of her well-being. Messages like these remind me that even when we’re unaware, our work is touching lives and sparking change. It’s humbling and deeply gratifying.

I also had a powerful moment recently with one of my wellness coaches, Fatma, based at the coast.

She did a star reading for one of my acquaintances, and the insights were not only liberating but astonishingly accurate.

It confirmed something I often reflect on—there’s so much wisdom available to us if we’re open to learning and exploring.

Many people question the relevance of astrology. Some label it as superstition or even an ungodly practice.

But let’s take a moment to consider this: if astrology was ungodly, why would God have used the stars to guide the Magi to the birth of His son, Jesus?

The Magi were astrologers, wise men who studied the stars and discerned their meanings, much like practitioners today. Astrology is not mysticism or witchcraft. It’s the ancient and time-honored study of how the stars and planets influence our lives.

Our lives are written in the stars long before they unfold here on earth. I’ve personally had my birth chart read by Fatma, and I was amazed by the clarity and accuracy it offered me.

I encourage each of you to stay connected and engage with us in these conversations. Let’s share, question, and explore the many routes to better health and deeper understanding.

Knowledge brings freedom. It’s as though we’ve been living in chains, unaware of our potential—and suddenly, those chains are broken, setting us free to live healthier, fuller lives.

I always say, and I’ll say it again: Ignorance of health matters is dangerous. But the pursuit of knowledge and wisdom leads to healing and wholeness. Seek knowledge. Seek wisdom. And all will be well with you.

🌿 Just a gentle reminder! 🌿

🌿 Tip of the Week 🌿

Diet for Managing Hypertension and Preventing Diabetes

Did you know that hypertension is often a warning sign on the road to diabetes? Left unchecked, it can progress—but with the right diet and lifestyle, you can take back control.

Reduce or eliminate processed carbohydrates and sugars—think bread, pastries, sodas, and sweets (yes, even honey and sweet fruits). These spike insulin levels and lead to insulin resistance over time.

Eat no more than two meals a day. This limits insulin spikes and gives your body time to heal and rebalance.

🔹 What should your meals look like?
✔️ Protein: Choose quality sources like fish, free-range chicken, beef, lamb, mutton, eggs, and bone broth. Homemade fermented dairy (like kefir yogurt) is also great—avoid store-bought versions with additives.
✔️ Healthy fats: Embrace fats that come naturally with whole foods. Avocados, nuts, coconut oil, ghee, and fats from pasture-raised meats are excellent. Steer clear of processed seed oils (commonly called vegetable oils).
✔️ Non-starchy vegetables: Think leafy greens, cabbage, okra, peppers, snow peas, and carrots.
✔️ Complex carbs in moderation: Cooked green bananas (matoke), pumpkin, butternut squash, sweet potatoes, lentils, and beans. Limit cassava due to its effect on thyroid function.

Avoid modern high-sugar fruits like mangoes, ripe bananas, oranges, and watermelon. Small amounts of berries and avocado are fine.

A note on meat preparation:
Eat meat in its natural form—skip processed meats like sausages. Choose boiling or gentle cooking methods over grilling, roasting, or frying. High-heat cooking produces harmful toxins and carcinogens like acrylamide (found in browned or charred foods).

Remember: "Brown" doesn’t always mean better. That crusty bread edge we all loved as kids? It’s often where the acrylamide hides. If you still eat bread, skip the crust—your body will thank you!

Your health is in your hands. Start small, stay consistent, and nourish yourself well.

❓ Question of the Week ❓

Can dietary supplements reverse lifestyle health conditions like diabetes, cancer, or hypertension?

This is a question I encounter often, and it’s an important one. Let’s begin with a key insight:

👉 A diagnosis alone doesn’t reveal the full picture of what’s happening in the body.
Two people with the same diagnosis can have very different levels of damage to their organs and body systems. One may have mild damage; another may have multiple systems deeply affected. Knowing your full health status is essential before you begin any intervention.

Let me share my personal journey to illustrate this point.

My Story: The Journey to Better Health

In January 2023, my blood pressure was found to be dangerously high. I was placed on medication immediately. After several hospital tests, I was told that apart from damage to my blood vessels—resulting in chronic hypertension—I was otherwise fine.
The doctors explained that once blood vessels are damaged, they don’t regenerate. I was told I would need to be on BP-lowering medication for life.

🔹 At one point, even with medication, my blood pressure wouldn’t go lower than 179/113, and sometimes shot up beyond 200/120, with my pulse hitting 147 bpm.
🔹 More tests revealed additional damage: the left ventricle of my heart was affected, and my kidney function wasn’t optimal.
🔹 I realized that while medications were helping manage symptoms, I needed a deeper, holistic approach to truly heal.

The Turning Point

I chose to get a full health assessment. The findings were sobering—many areas of my health needed attention. I embarked on a serious lifestyle overhaul and committed to the following:
✅ Consistent health assessments (at least twice a year)
✅ Targeted lifestyle modifications (diet, exercise, hydration, sleep)

Over time, many areas improved. However, the blood vessels and heart issues remained stubborn.

Eventually, I was placed on a carefully selected combination of four dietary supplements, tailored physical exercises, proper hydration, and improved sleep. I maintained my BP medication regimen during this time.

After three months, a review showed a major breakthrough:
✔️ My blood vessels were now healthy
✔️ My left ventricle was back within a normal range

Today, I no longer take those supplements, but I maintain a healthy lifestyle and routine health checks. I still take a low-dose BP medication and travel with my BP monitor everywhere.

Lessons Learned

  1. A diagnosis is just the starting point—it doesn’t reveal all that’s going on in the body.

  2. Healing happens at different speeds. Some parts of the body—like the liver—can regenerate faster. Others, like the blood vessels in the brain and kidneys, require much more time and effort.

  3. You must take an active role in your healing. Relying solely on doctors or supplements isn’t enough. Healing requires informed action, discipline, and commitment.

Your health is your responsibility. Get the right information. Do the work. Stay committed.

Always assess your health as a whole—not just by the diagnosis.
